Good old Siena

Siena is a much-sought-after tourist city. Its reputation is well-deserved. Mediaeval art, architecture, and culture abound in this joint. It’s more than a little overwhelming for me, but I’m glad we’re here for a few days. Today Andy and I got up late, but the girls had belted off for their usual early morning ‘brush the cobwebs off’ belt-out around the town.

After a lovely breakfast of muesli and banana, we headed off to the famous piazza of Siena and ‘did’ the museum and climbed the 400-step high tower. People who suffered heart conditions were clearly warned against this activity, but I went up anyway. Thank goodness for the previous 7-day training sessions we had under our belts! I was reminded of the scenes from the black comedic movie In Bruges, where the overweight family is warned against climbing the tower. Now 400 steps is a LOT of steps STRAIGHT UP, as I’m sure you’ll agree. But we made it, with three stents between us and all!

Lots of tourists in Siena. Way more than any if the other towns we’ve stayed in. We hate tourists and wish that they would all leave and let us enjoy the city without them. [Surely there are some great shows on TV they could be watching!]

Nonetheless, we walked around gawping at the sights the same as the afore-mentioned tourists and probably enjoyed them just as much. Good old Siena!
