Wangaratta has two of everything - two football clubs, two men’s sheds, two theatre companies, two cathedrals. Its size demands this. Similarly in Assisi, the town is divided into the Upper part (The Blues) and the lower part (The Reds).
On our first night we
stumbled upon a feast put on for the Blues. Huge. Everyone there. All dressed
in blue. Blue flags hanging from Upper buildings.
Further along our reconnoiter of the city of Assisi we stumbled upon the feast of the Reds – the lower part of the town. Red flags this time. And red jackets. All very amiable and joyous. No animosity (like Rovers vs Maggies). Probably a practical solution to a way for all the town to join in the celebrations of the onset of spring.
The spring celebration involves immersion of mediaeval activities such as archery, crossbowmanship, dancing and flag chucking. More of that later. All very entertaining for us as we headed back to our apartment.
All good!
Toodles.
