Haven’t I blogged since Verona? Doodness! Well here’s a fill-in since then.
We finished with Italy and began our German adventures. First stop Rotenburg, but not before leaving two articles on the last of three train changes. The thing was that the trip before the last station was way too short. Both DJ and left an article on the train – DJ her fave water bottle and me my €6 hat.
In any case, Rotenburg was great. Lovely mediaeval building, a wonderful wall (with our apartment IN it and some really grouse food experiences. We walked and walked and walked.
Thence on to Bamberg. Many more tourists here and a much more bustling city (cf Rotenburg with its slow pace and calmer atmosphere). We had hired bikes and did two rides over two days. First southwards towards Nurnberg (65 km) and next day to Bad Stafelstein. First ride was long but steady (no hills on canals) and the second one was a belter up into a cold Arctic wind. We returned to Bamberg in the train on that one. Very enjoyable though.
In Bamberg we farewelled our travelling companions Graz and Andy. We headed NW to Lippstadt and they south to Munchen. They’ll be able to talk about us now without having to talk behind their hands. Oh to be a fly upon the wall!
Toodles!
