Siena

Siena. A big town. Lots of tourists. Us too. We are tourists. Get over it.

Fortunately there are not TOO MANY tourists. Not as many as there would be in summer. So we have the towers and the museums to ourselves. We are free to climb the 400 steps to the tippy top of the highest of highest towers. We did it. View from the top:

And the cathedrals! Oh the cathedrals and churches! And the chapels. Don’t start me on the chapels! Inside you can only IMAGINE the different representations of SUFFERING and DEATH and MISERY. With time (and talent) on one’s side, one could paint/carve/etch even more depictions of this sort of pain. Yet one doesn’t. There’s too much already.

I’m not one for criticising the religious beliefs of others. However, for me, I have had enough. It’s time to head off to other climes. Next stop Verona. I’m sure we won’t come across quite so much religiosity there.

Just to prove my point (see above), here is Santa Caterina’s actual FINGER. How about THAT??!!
