London

London

Off to Düsseldorf today from Lippstadt. No more ‘incidents’ and we easily found the car drop off joint. Thence by public transport – tram and train to the airport. Flight to Gatwick took about an hour. Train to London took about an hour.

DJ loves London. I like it, but don’t love it. Nonetheless, we had some lovely experiences.

Number one was having dinner at Gen (Blanch) and Michael’s house. It coincided with Graeme BLANCH’s birthday, so was very special. He and Gigi had arrived from their bike trip in France, so it was rather a jolly evening.

Another great event was going to see Fiddler on the Roof at the Barbican Theatre.  The show was fabulous and we had front row seats. The songs are still swirling through my brain some days later.

The Barbican, for those who haven’t seen it, is a set of buildings in the brutalist style built after WW2. Brutal, imposing, dreary and, let’s face it, BRUTAL. Originally designed to house the not-so-well-off people, it is now the home of the well-to-do. One either loves the Barbican (eg DJ) or hates it (eg me). Interesting though …

A compulsory trip to the Victoria and Albert museum was good and just wandering around the joint.

We head off in the train next to start our Hadrian’s Wall epic with Gigi and Bloggs. It should be grouse.

Toodles!
